Life Sets In

Debt.

Ouch.

Its such a, well, comforting feeling figuring out that total tuition for two years is going to hit your wallet with almost $80,000… give or take $15,000. That’s not so bad right?

Get this:

Because my parents worked hard, paid off their debt on their house, student loans, and so on, lived within there means, and saved so their kids could go to college off of one income, the federal government decides that because we are such good citizens, we aren’t eligible for a federal Pell Grant. Ok, its just one grant right? Nope. It makes me completely ineligible for ALL federal grants, and a lot of loans. So much for ‘government’ aid…

Neumont, Geek Weekend

Awesome.

I loved the place, and it appears I’m going to be going there to start sometime this summer, but to back up a week and a day, I have a bunch of pictures to show you from that trip, and believe me, it was fun.

I’m a Minnesota photographer slash web designer slash programmer that has recently got accepted at Neumont University a small college out by the outskirts of salt lake city. South Jordan to be more exact. Its a relatively new college, only a few years old and the brainchild of some crazy guy’s who realized the whole thing about college was just pointless. They went back and rethought everything from the beginning, the type of learning, how people learn best, and how best to meet those needs. The result of this is Neumont University, an accredited, year round college that takes students from no computer knowledge to being some of the best hires for the computer science industry. It’s literally a full time job, with classes all day long, from 8 in the morning to 4-5 in the evening, minus a one hour lunch break.

And that’s not counting the homework.

But its entirely project based, so that means little lecture, lots of large group projects, and a very fast pace. In terms of credits it is approximately 24-28 credits per quarter, times 4 quarters, times two years.

I’m going to die.

Why am I doing this? Well, its like this, if you never jump off the high dive into the deep end, you’ll never know if you can really swim, so this is my jump, my high dive.
